@AlaskanWife - my suggestions were going to be similar to @MrsD 's.
My husband and I are big cruise fans because we both hate detail planning vacations - and a cruise you just show up and have a nice time going several different places. HOWEVER, keep in mind that many warm cruise destinations are at high risk for Zika. Depending on when you go that may not be an issue, but something to keep an eye out for. We used to go on one pretty much every year, but we haven't gone since the Zika situation started up. (which is a bummer because when it started we had JUST moved next to ports that go all sorts of wonderful places )
We moved to Florida almost two years ago and it is lovely here. I live in Tampa, which is near Clearwater Beach - and it is super lovely, lots of water sports, plus Orlando is only an hour or so away (closer to two from the beach itself) so you can always add a disney/universal type portion of the trip. Plus Orlando has tons of flights coming in from all over because of the disney traffic. (note if you haven't been to disney type places in awhile it is staggeringly expensive - so may not be in the budget). There are beautiful beaches all up and down the coast (more on the gulf side).
You could also always do something a little more culture ish. For example a Charleston/NorthCarolina/Savannah type trip. That is atlantic side so I don't care for them as much, but they still have some nice beaches and the cities have a lot of character. That would need to be fall or spring for you though, because those places do get too cold for the beach in the winter.
Hope you guys find an awesome place!!
